Government to Promote Integrated Food Safety Information Network

□ The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Commissioner: Seung Jeong, MFDS) announced that they will operate the ‘Integrated Food Safety Information Network Development Promotion Team’ in cooperation with 12 ministries including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock, and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and will develop the information system by the end of December.

○ Last year, a business process improvement (BPR) and information strategy planning (ISP) project was performed to develop Integrated Food Safety Information Network Development Promotion Team.
※ BPR/ISP(Business Process Re-engineering, Information Strategic Planning): Figure out business process improvement plan by analyzing works, develop long-term plan for informatization and design informatization target model.
□ Integrated Food Safety Information Network consists of ▲ general ministry food safety information standardization system, ▲ food safety information portal site for citizen, ▲ information common use system and ▲ administrative affairs integrated system.
○ The ‘general ministry food safety information standardization system’ integrates the national food safety information by issuing and using a serial number to the food industry, prepares standard code for food raw material and blocks improper raw materials from the stage of product declaration.
○ The ‘food safety information portal site for citizen’ collects food safety administrative information and hazardous food information in one place for people to find information easily. “Our company food safety management service (tentative name)”* provides various safety information and management standard in advance in order to enhance safety management standard of food companies.
* Customized information supply through company serial number to fit type such as manufacturing, import, distribution and entertaining companies and to fit relevant companies including food standard, criteria, hazardous food information and safety management guide
○ The ‘Information common use system’ integrates food safety information divided among departments to share information without establishing a partition between departments in establishing food safety policy and responding to food accidents.
○ The ‘administrative affairs integration system’ improves the quality of work performance to share information and administrative processing between MFDS and metropolitan city, provincial government, borough and county at real time basis.
□ MFDS announced that it is expected that if integrated food safety information network is developed, meticulous food management is available using food safety information for safety management such as school meal and creative economy would be activated for people and industry using open food safety information.
